Elicia Joi
:Dancer, Philosopher, Lover, Human
You can call me Joi.
I was raised in a military family (Navy + Air Force) and reared primarily in the southern U.S. Dance was always more natural than sports, so I began formal training at 6 years old. That led to a life of recitals, back-up gigs, go-go stints, and eventually pole – one of the best things to happen to my athletic life.
Academically, I fell in love with philosophical ruminations in high school. Learning to think for myself directed me to earn Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in order to teach others how to harness their cognitive abilities.
Spiritually, the practice of yoga led me inwards in ways Western philosophy could not. Yoga is an ongoing journey that continuously helps me to be a better being.
When I’m not busy training or navigating existential crises, you’ll likely find me somewhere outdoors with my dog Sammy.
